“We’re in the Endgame now.”

Following the events of 2018 Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame made its debut on April 26th.

In the Battle of Wakanda, Thanos defeated the Avengers and acquired all six Infinity Stones. In an event dubbed the “Decimation”, Thanos uses the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all life in the universe.

Beginning shortly after the Decimation, Avengers: Endgame follows the story of the remaining Avengers, and their fight to bring back the billions that were killed. The movie begins with Tony Stark and Nebula adrift in space with no food or water as their oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers on Earth -Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Bruce Banner, and newcomer Captain Marvel- try to figure out how to track Thanos and use the Infinity Gauntlet to bring back their vanquished allies.

Avengers: Endgame was one of the most anticipated movies of the common era. As a dedicated MCU fan, Endgame lived up to the expectations – for the most part. The movie starts off slow as it sets the story and puts the main plot into motion. Withstanding some minor conflict and humorous moments, the first two hours of the movie are relatively boring compared the the final hour. The last 60 minutes of this movie wraps up the Thanos conflict, all while bringing an end to the story arcs of the original Avengers and propelling the futures of newly added heroes. The Russo brothers end the movie strong, leaving viewers satisfied.

The directors’ visions came to life through the talented actors that play the main heroes. Robert Downey Jr. resumes his role as Tony Stark (Iron Man), transforming a billionaire playboy into a responsible hero. Mark Ruffalo masterfully turned a raging green beast into a sophisticated balance between brains and brawn as Professor Hulk. Chris Hemsworth brought to life an interesting take on Thor, playing right into the fat suit he wore. Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) help visualize the connection between two age-old partners and how they help each other move on from their past. Finally, Chris Evans takes his place as the selfless Captain America, proving what audiences always knew; he is worthy. Avengers: Endgame marks the beginning of a new era as new actors and heroes emerge.

On opening weekend, Endgame grossed $1.2 billion dollars worldwide, the largest opening in film history. On May 4th, Endgame made $1.9 billion worldwide, making it the 5th highest grossing movie. By May 5th, Endgame surpassed Titanic, becoming the 2nd highest grossing film, with $2.18 billion globally. Experts predict that Endgame will soon become the highest grossing film of all time.

Endgame is the movie of this generation and will be remembered for years to come.
