The Outsiders : A Golden Performance
Year after year, Kingsway’s drama club puts on shows that captivates their audiences, and this year is no exception to that rule.
In December of 2018, director Andrew Young and his devoted cast members gloriously recreated S.E. Hinton’s classic story, “The Outsiders.” With the use of specially choreographed fight scenes, perfectly placed props, and costumes to fit the time period and characters being portrayed, this year’s drama play will not be one to miss.
When Joey Ramirez, a cast member who will be playing the role of Two-Bit, was asked his thoughts during a show rehearsal, he stated that “it is very interesting right now. We are still working on makeup and everything and trying to make it look realistic. I think it is coming on really good. Definitely something you don’t want to miss…There’s this big rumble; all the Greasers vs. all the Socs. It looks so cool.”
The cast also described how they worked with a combat choreographer that was utilized in the creation of a fight scene, whom the cast members described as Jacklyn. Ramirez went on to say “I get my butt kicked. I tried getting a punch in but she said it would look cooler if I got my face smashed. She’s awesome. She’s really good at placing people. Erin has a really good fight too. It looks sick!”
Erin Highland, who played Dallas Winston, said, “I have been in the play since freshman year, so I can safely say it is the best show we have had since I’ve been at this school. I think it is going to turn out really well.”
While the greasers dressed in black and leather with cigarettes hanging from their fingers and the Socs dressed in their varsity sweaters and plaid skirts, it is clear to see that the hard work and practice put into the production has paid off. Props were perfectly placed and designed. Lines were spoken with fluency and confidence. Characters wereaccurately portrayed with accents and just the right amount of swagger. An audience member described the show as one fit for Broadway. Year after year, Andrew Young, cast, and crew members never fail to please their audiences.
