Olivia Rodrigo has done it again. She recently released her new single, ‘Deja Vu’, and it is quickly climbing the Billboard Charts. In early January, Rodrigo had released her top song, Driver’s License. After gaining traction on the popular social media platform, TikTok, her song took off. It reached number 1 on Billboard’s Global 200 list and remained there for nine weeks.

Tiktok creators used this song to create trends and even add their own creative twist on Rodrigo’s song such as rewriting the lyrics. Her Taylor Swift-inspired writing style quickly caught her audience’s attention. Taylor Swift herself even congratulated Rodrigo on the success of her song and gave her a few encouraging comments

Her writing style is not the only thing Rodrigo channeled from Taylor Swift. In Driver’s License, Rodrigo expresses her pain and heartbreak after losing a guy she loves to another girl. Through her lyrics, Rodrigo reminisces about the memories of her relationship. Her feelings that portrayed through the song caused many listeners to speculate over the events that led to the creation of the song.

After deeply analyzing the lyrics of the song and the accompanying music video, fans came to the conclusion that the boy Rodrigo sang about is her co-star, Joshua Basset. This revelation only boosted the song’s popularity as listeners continued to sympathize with Rodrigo. In her newest single, Deja Vu, Rodrigo takes on a different tone. Through her lyrics, she presents a new, confident persona. This new song took fans by surprise because of the blatant message of the song. She confronts an ex-boyfriend about doing the same things with his new girlfriend as he did with her, and she questions the uniqueness of his new relationship.

Olivia is getting bolder with her music choices, and her fans can’t wait to see what she comes up with next! It’s a good thing they won’t have to wait long because Rodrigo has announced the release of her debut album, Sour, consisting of 11 songs including Driver’s License and Deja Vu on May 21. By the album title alone, I think we can all agree that Rodrigo has a lot more to say about her break up, but we’ll just have to wait and see!
