This article is part of a series called Discovering Clubs at Kingsway. Our initiative focuses on interviewing all the clubs offered at Kingsway High School in order to better inform students about clubs they may be curious about. We hope by doing this, we can give people an idea of what a club is like, while helping students discover new, interesting clubs along the way!
Interview Questions:
1) What’s your club about? What would you say it focuses on specifically?
“It’s about computer science and this year we’re trying to focus more on fundamental concepts of computer science and how computers are used in the real world”
2) How long have you been in this club? How would you describe your overall experience with it?
“I joined my sophomore year, 3 years now. I’ve learned a lot of interesting concepts of the club over the past few years and we’ve done a lot of interesting activities.”
3) What is your favorite activity you’ve had the opportunity to experience through this club?
“We’re planning to do a video game development competition where any members can work on their own time to create a game and we’re also planning to showcase their games during the meeting so a favorite can be picked.”
4) What is your favorite thing about this club?
“I think we have a great sense of community. At our first meeting this year, we had so many people that we filled the entire room. Everyone was interacting with each other. Our officers went around the room to talk to everyone, and most of our members felt welcomed in the club.”
5) What type of activities can students look forward to?
“Students can look forward to interactive activities that tie into lessons about relevant computer science topics. For example, in our next meeting, we’re planning to look into computer graphics and how they can be used in various ways from animation to video games and design.”
6) If there was one thing you could say to people who are unsure about joining – what would it be?
“Our most important focus this year is that we are beginner-friendly if anyone has any slight interest in the technology of computers or anything of that nature, they’re welcome to join and won’t feel overwhelmed at the meetings. I think any beginner would find any interest or value in attending a meeting.”
