May is drawing to a close, and it’s not long before the Class of 2025 will walk their high school halls, turn their graduation caps’ tassels, and say goodbye to the school, friends, and teachers who watched and educated them for the past four years. For many, those four years may have been tough, and a breeze for others, but each one should be proud to know that a new chapter of their journey is about to begin.
Many of this year’s seniors look to the last few years fondly. Each surely remembers their favourite class—which for one senior, Reese Janiszewski, was chorus, the class that let her find her voice. A favourite teacher, Mr. Simmermon, was at the top of Lilly Kline’s list, as she said, “Throughout my entire senior year, he always encouraged me as I went into all sorts of assessments, demonstrating his unfailing confidence in me as a student. I never felt like I couldn’t go to him with questions or concerns, or felt as if he’d judge me for who I am”.
When we talk about senior moments, there is an abundance to choose from. Starting strong at the beginning of the year, Senior Sunrise, a favourite of senior Faith-Ann Tejero, marked the beginning of the Class of 2025’s final year at Kingsway; however, there was no lack of events the rest of the school year. Many seniors enjoyed sports games, banquets, and, of course, Senior Nights, while others appreciated their last year with their clubs and extracurricular activities. And while the Senior Prom and graduation haven’t quite happened yet, no one can forget the most notable event of the year: the Senior Trip to Disney World Orlando!
As their high school careers come to a close, the Class of 2025 looks to the future. Many plan to go to college, with some of Kingsway’s finest being accepted into Ivy League Universities, such as Cornell and Harvard. Others plan to attend trade schools, the military, or jump straight into the workforce. Kingsway is full of ambitious students, each with their own unique dreams and aspirations. Saliha Onal, for example, is planning on studying to become a lawyer with hopes of someday becoming a Supreme Court Justice. Mila Martinez-Morales wants to be an English teacher. The Class of 2025 is ready to turn a new page in their lives, but no matter how far away they go, know that Kingsway and its students are cheering them on.
The Seniors have been through it all, four years gone by in a flash, which makes them very qualified in advising incoming underclassmen. Their experiences have led them to realize the importance of focusing on academics and actually completing their work, regardless of a lack of motivation. Make a habit out of it, for it will relieve stress and help in the long run. They also recommend building relationships with teachers, as they are only there to help students learn and thrive. Though it may seem cliche, cherish these four years because, as the Seniors can confidently say, they fly by. As they exit those doors for the last time on June 18th, know that the mark they made on this school will never be forgotten.
