The Dragon Care Closet is a student-led community service initiative that supports those struggling with daily responsibilities by providing food, hygiene supplies, self-care items, and more. Established by current seniors Charlotte Jones, Emily Richmond, and Aidan McGarry in partnership with the school, the project grew from its initial goals as a National Honor Society service-learning project into a school-wide, year-around event.
As the 2025-2026 school year winds down, the project leaders will hand this initiative off to the next group of students. Providing a look into their responsibilities, Charlotte Jones explains, “they will have to place boxes into teachers’ classrooms, put the products into the closet, and organize it if it is a mess.”
Running this program also means advertising collection through KDTV, communicating with school administration, and keeping up with the closet stock. In the future, the leaders hope to expand this project into the middle school and partner with local community service organizations.
Student participation is integral to keeping this initiative running. Jones explains that the closet is kept stocked solely through students’ and teachers’ donations. Next time you see a Dragon Care Closet bin—located in Kingsway’s North and South Lobbies—know that you can donate and help make an impact on a community in need!
