The New Year met us with a sharp chill— a crisp kick-off this January. From snow-days to the semester’s end, many Dragons have found themselves reflecting on 2025 and ready for a fresh start. So, get cozy and take a look at what resolutions are taking Kingsway students into 2026.
The end of the semester has been busy, to say the least, and several students are facing it head on. One sophomore we spoke to is aiming for better grades this year, and has even gotten a head start on his goal by reaching out to a math tutor. Nia Alteros, a freshman, is putting her discipline to the test in the name of self-improvement— explaining that she wants “to make a study habit for 30 minutes a day at least.” Amidst the inevitable chaos of his junior year, another student, Liam Tyers, has similarly decided to make this the year he gets better at managing his procrastination. Doubling down on a commitment to excellence, these Dragons are a great inspiration for ways we can start off the new semester strong.
While some students are reclaiming their academic lives, some students are working on reclaiming their personal lives. “One of my biggest New Year’s resolutions is to get back into the hobbies I dropped because of being busy,” remarks one senior, Gracelyn Xiao. This year, she strives to replace some of her phone time with more meaningful hobbies— like exploring her interests in chess, crochet, and guitar. A junior, Melanie Vicente, is making more time for her family and interests; in addition to spending more time with her sisters, she is currently working on her goal to “reach level 300 on dragon adventures in Roblox.” In the long term, Melanie has resolved to go fishing every day this spring and summer, and to “finally catch [her] first bass.” These resolutions remind us that prioritizing our passions and well-being is just as valuable as focusing on our responsibilities.
From hitting the books to fishing hooks, students across our district are proving that 2026 is not just about change— it is about intention. As we step out of the melting snow and into the new semester— the new year— remember to keep that commitment to the things, activities, and people you love.
From us at the Flame: here’s to a 2026 that feels exactly how you want it to.
