As we exit March in the new year, there are countless events and moments to look back on: daylight saving, St. Patrick’s Day, International Women’s Day, Pi day, and possibly the most anticipated: March Madness. The National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I basketball tournaments, popularly known as March Madness, brought together 68 teams in both the men’s and women’s competitions to compete for the national titles.
The tournament consists of seven rounds, beginning with the “First Four” play-in games, followed by the first round (64 teams), the second round, the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight, the Final Four, and the Championship game.
The 2026 March Madness Men’s bracket has been full of jaw-dropping wins, devastating losses, and incredible climbs. The first four play-in games that kicked off the tournament found Texas and Howard punching their tickets into the Round of 64! Early upsets shook the tournament when Iowa beat defending champion Florida, and High Point pulled off a shocking victory over Wisconsin. These early games highlighted the tone of surprises and underdog risings for the rest of the tournament.
During the Sweet 16, competition only intensified; big dogs Arizona, Duke, Michigan, and UConn survived tough matchups, earning their spot in the Elite Eight. Illinois faced an intense battle with Houston, earning its spot as well.
After vigorous matches, the elite eight were found! Arizona (seed 1) dominated Purdue (seed 2) 79–64 to reach the Final Four. Illinois (seed 3) knocked out Iowa (seed 9) 71–59, and UConn defeated Duke in a close match (73-72). Finally, Michigan defeated Tennessee devastatingly (95-62). The final four? Arizona vs. Michigan and UConn vs. Illinois.
Some notable players and moments have been Arizona’s point guard Jaden Bradley, averaging over 20 points per game; Illinois’ forward David Mirkovic, who’s known for his rebounding; and Texas, a first-four underdog, that people are calling the rags-to-riches “Cinderella of the tournament.”
The 2026 Men’s Basketball March Madness featured the final four teams in an intense matchup in Indianapolis. Michigan defeated Arizona in an overwhelming 91-73 victory, while UConn beat Illinois 71-62.
And finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for: the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, Michigan vs. UConn. In an intense matchup, on a new court, and the crowning of a champion, the final March Madness game took place. With an extraordinarily close score of 69-63, Michigan took the crown. The monumental victory secured the program’s first title since 1989, capping a historic 37-win season and solidifying the school’s standard of excellence. What an incredible March Madness run!
