On a bright, 80-degree day before spring break, with the sun blazing down on the turf, Kingsway held its 2026 Spring Pep Rally. It involved a series of games – some old and some new – intense competition, and overwhelming school spirit. Before the fun, points from the spring’s spirit week and the previous two pep rallies were added up, leaving the Seniors in the lead, followed by the sophomores, then the juniors, with the freshmen in last. But the classes shouldn’t get too comfy in their placements because anything can happen. Here’s a recap of the 2026 Spring Pep Rally and its results!
The pep rally was kicked off with a 4×100 relay, with 4 participants from each grade positioned at various points around the track. As the race began, the seniors and juniors shot ahead, with the sophomores not very far behind. The race was consistently close between the 3 older grades, with the freshmen, unfortunately, lagging. However, at the final exchange zone, the sophomores rocketed forward, claiming first their class, with the seniors and juniors on their tail, and the freshmen far behind.
Following the high-stakes race was an Easter-themed game, Bunny Ears Snatching. 3 participants from each grade were handed a pair of bunny ears and instructed to steal their contestants’ ears while keeping their own. However, there was a catch – they needed to hop like a bunny! With this game, the seniors did not get the early lead as they did in the race. They were the first class to be eliminated, followed by the juniors losing 2 out of their 3, also pretty early on. Unfortunately for that last junior, he was targeted by the 3 final lowerclassmen. And from those 3 underclassmen, once again, the sophomores ended up on top.
Next up was a new addition, field goal kicking. The representative from each grade would kick a field goal, and as they made it, they would move back 10 yards. Fortunately, everybody made it through the first round, but as they got farther back, a controversial call got the juniors out. The ball was technically between the 2 yellow pillars, but went above the goal. Following this, the seniors got out with a much more obvious miss. The freshmen and sophomores continued to kick back and forth until the sophomore kicker missed, ending the sophomore winning streak and giving some much-needed points to the freshmen.
Now for everyone’s favorite game, musical chairs… but with a twist. Contestants are blind folded and instructed to spin in a circle while the chairs are placed randomly around them. It’s an intense game, leading to many full-out wrestling matches for chairs. Multiple chairs had to be decided by rock-paper-scissors because of these mini wrestling matches. After several extreme rounds, it was down to one senior and one junior. As the 2 were spinning in the center, the final chair was placed in the end zone. When music stopped, it was a race for the win, both contestants in a full sprint. In the end, the senior had the speed advantage and surpassed the junior, getting the win for the class of 2026.
It’s now time for the final game, a test of strength – tug of war. The seniors easily beat the freshmen, as expected. However, age did not help the juniors, as the sophomores overpowered them. Thankfully, the juniors were able to beat the freshmen for third place, a feat that would be quite embarrassing if not accomplished. The freshmen almost got away with cheating with an additional person, but Ms. Kelly caught them, saved the juniors from an embarrassing loss, and got Mr. Philip in a bit of trouble for failing to do his job as the ref. In the final round of tug of war, the seniors beat the sophomores in a very intense round, with a struggle from both sides. However, this was not the end; don’t forget about the teachers. The adults emerged one by one from the crowd, rallying more school spirit and enthusiasm than the majority of the students. They crushed the seniors with an easy win, and per Kingsway tradition, were able to grant the points from their win to a class of their choice. Many assumed they would give it to the seniors, but they actually gave it to the freshmen, and in the end, this was a deciding factor in the results.
After the games were concluded, the points were added up, and the results were in. As expected, the Seniors won; they can credit their spirit week participation, tug of war, and musical chairs participants, and the rigged bias that may or may not exist towards the seniors. In second place were the sophomores, with their very athletic track runners and tug of war team. In third place was, shockingly, the freshman who got lucky with the extra points gifted by the teachers. And in last place were the juniors. Unfortunately, they’ve been consistently losing all year due to the lack of spirit week participation…or lack of spirit day counting, and their inability to win games. Class of 2027 needs to start participating more and strategically picking their pep rally participants, or no extra points will save them, and they might lose their senior year. Regardless of the individual class results, it was a very successful pep rally all in all and a perfect headway into spring break.
